LED light therapy is a non-invasive, clinically proven treatment that harnesses the power of light to rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level. This technology has become a cornerstone in modern aesthetics for its ability to deliver visible results without discomfort or downtime, and I’m excited to be able to offer high-quality LED light therapy at Radiance By Alison at a great price.
LED light therapy works wonderfully as its own treatment, but it is also brilliant when used in combination with other Radiance By Alison treatments - such as HydroDiamond™ facial, IPL, and LPG endermologie®. If you would like to add LED light therapy to a course of other treatments, please let me know.
LED light boosts local blood circulation, which delivers healing nutrients and pain relieving components to the area. Different colours of LED light provide additional benefits:
Red LED light therapy
Red light is best used for anti-ageing, as it encourages collagen and elastin, which helps to replump and lift, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It also helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells, which aids facial rehydration, lessens sagging skin and reduces the effects of aging.
Green LED light therapy
Green light is really useful for normalising the levels of melanin in your skin, so can help with some types of sun damage and excessive use of skin-damaging products. It can also lighten hyperpigmentation, any unwanted freckles, and age spots. It also has a calming effect on the skin.
Blue LED light therapy
Blue light is great for treating mild to moderate acne as it kills the bacteria that causes it in your skin’s sebaceous glands. The treatment helps the healing process, and also helps prevent scarring and infections. The anti-bacterial properties of blue light can also be used to help many other skin conditions.
What can LED light therapy be used for?
Different lights, or a combination of them, can be used to:
Rehydrate your face
Increase collagen and elastin production
Decreasing flaccidity
Lift sagging tissue
Restore skin tone and texture
Improve discolourisation caused by sun damage
Lessen the impact of some reactions to chemical peels
Lighten hyperpigmentation, unwanted freckles and age spots.
Treat mild to moderate acne
Yellow LED light therapy
Yellow light is brilliant at reducing inflammation, swelling, rosacea, and redness caused by broken capillaries and spider veins. It can also help with sunburn and mild burns.
LED light therapy FAQs
-
LED light therapy uses the natural power of light to help with a variety of skin concerns. Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) emit strong light at specific controlled frequencies, which results in different coloured light, so you can enjoy the maximum benefits that each of these frequencies can provide to your skin.
-
LED light therapy is non-invasive, quick, and harnesses the natural power of light. It can be used to help with a variety of skin issues and concerns. Light therapy can also be combined with other treatments such as HydroDiamond™ facial, IPL, and LPG endermologie® to boost their effectiveness.
-
LED light therapy is suitable for almost all skin types, and has fewer contraindications (the list of medical conditions that mean you cannot have the treatment) than most treatments. These are covered in the ‘Who is this treatment not suitable for?’ section below.
-
LED light therapy has no downtime, so you can continue your day and your plans straight after treatment. You will see the results soon, as your skin responds to the light stimulus. Like most treatments, visible results may vary from person to person.
-
LED light therapy is painless, and most people find it quite relaxing – like basking in the warmth of a summer day. Sometimes people feel a light tingling sensation, and occasionally people report a flashing in the optic nerve.
-
LED light therapy is non-invasive and pain-free. However, in rare cases people can experience nausea, dizziness, weakness, and possible skin reactions such as redness and irritation.
-
Although I check people’s medical history and conditions carefully during our consultation before any treatments, generally LED light therapy is not suitable if:
You are pregnant or breastfeeding
You have thyroid conditions
You have epilepsy or a history of seizures
You are taking cortisone injections or any other kind of steroid injection
You have received Isotretinoin (Anti-Acne), also known as Accutane, within the last 6 months
The following medications cannot be used within the timeframes listed before treatment, so please bear this in mind when booking:
Chlorpromazine (Antipsychotic), also known as Thorazine, Chlorpromazine Hcl, Sonazine – 8 days
Griseofulvin (Anti-Fungal) also known as Grifulvin V, Fulvicin P/G, Gris-Peg – 5 days
Tetracyclines Hcl (Antibiotic) also known as Helidac, Terra-Cortril, Terramycin, Sumycin, Bristacycline, Achromycin V, Actisite, Tetrex, Doxycycline, Ciprofloxacin – 5 days
Methotrexate (Anti-Arthritis and Anti-Cancer) also known as Methotrexate Sodium, PF & LPF, Mexate-AQ, Folex, Trexall – 3 days
If you are taking Tretinoin (Anti-Acne) - also known as Retin-A, Renova and Atalin - you can only be treated if you are using it at night.
If you are taking Amiodarone (Anti-Arrhythmic) - also known as Amiodarone Codarone X, and Pacerone - you can only be treated if you have written approval from your GP.
You must wait five days after Botox or other similar injections or cosmetic fillers, before receiving treatment.
If you are unsuitable for LED light therapy, please get in touch so we can discuss your goals and I can recommend alternative treatments.

After treatment, the skin needs to be protected from UV rays and possible sun damage. Please avoid excessive sun exposure and use at least an SPF 40 sunscreen.
